Hi, I'm Lauren Bordes. Welcome to The Space Between Counseling & Wellness. I'm a licensed mental health therapist with over 20 years of experience helping individuals navigate life's challenges, transitions, and complexities.

Throughout my career, I've worked in school systems, inpatient mental health settings, and outpatient therapy. These experiences have shaped how I understand people, relationships, and the many factors that influence our emotional well-being.

Today, my work focuses primarily on adults navigating anxiety, depression, grief and loss, relationship and family challenges, stress, major life changes, and the deeper questions of purpose, direction, and personal fulfillment.

I recognize that life doesn't always unfold as we imagined. Sometimes we find ourselves questioning familiar patterns, navigating unexpected changes, or simply feeling disconnected from the person we want to be.

People come to therapy for many different reasons. Sometimes there's a specific challenge you'd like help navigating. Other times, it's harder to put into words. You might simply recognize that something needs to change, even if you're not quite sure what that looks like yet.

I believe therapy offers an opportunity to slow down, gain perspective, and better understand ourselves. Not because something is necessarily wrong, but because greater awareness can open the door to new possibilities.

My goal is to create a space where you feel comfortable being yourself, exploring difficult questions, and discovering what growth and well-being look like for you.

“Awareness is the greatest agent for change.”

HOW WE WORK TOGETHER

My Approach

I believe effective therapy begins with genuine human connection. Feeling heard, understood, and respected is essential to the therapeutic process.

My approach is warm, collaborative, integrative, and goal-oriented. I recognize that every individual brings a unique combination of experiences, relationships, strengths, and challenges into the therapy room. I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach, and I value meeting people where they are while helping them move toward where they want to be.

I draw from a range of evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), family systems perspectives, and mindfulness-based practices. My work also incorporates elements of DBT, attachment-informed therapy, parts work, positive psychology, and psychoeducation, along with other therapeutic approaches tailored to each person's individual needs and goals.

Together, we explore how your thoughts, emotions, relationships, and past experiences influence your present life. Depending on your needs, our work may involve processing grief, understanding family dynamics, challenging long-held beliefs, strengthening relationships, or developing healthier ways of responding to stress.

I value both insight and action. Through reflection, psychoeducation, collaborative goal setting, and practical skill development, we work toward translating what you discover in therapy into meaningful changes in everyday life.

Above all, I want therapy to feel like a genuine conversation: a place where you can be curious, honest, challenged when appropriate, and supported throughout the process.

Therapy isn't about becoming someone entirely different. It's about developing a deeper understanding of yourself, recognizing your strengths, and creating a life that feels more aligned with who you are and what matters most to you.

“Change the way you look at things, and the things you look at change.”

THE MEANING BEHIND OUR NAME

The Philosophy Behind The Space Between

The Space Between Counseling & Wellness was born from a simple belief: some of our most meaningful growth happens in the spaces between.

Between the start and the stop. Between the pause and the breath. Between action and reaction. Between what we know and what we're still discovering. Between stillness and movement. Between where we are and who we're becoming.

These are the moments when we have an opportunity to slow down, become more aware, question familiar patterns, and begin to see new possibilities.

Not every transition comes with clarity. Sometimes we find ourselves somewhere between what was and what comes next, learning to navigate uncertainty, rediscover our strengths, and make choices that feel more aligned with who we are.

To me, therapy is about honoring those in-between moments. Creating room for reflection, understanding, healing, and meaningful change. Because growth doesn't always happen in the big moments. Sometimes it begins in the smallest pause.

“Between stimulus and response, there is a space.”

COMMUNITY & ADVOCACY

Beyond the Therapy Room

In addition to my clinical work, I'm a co-founder of Headquarters Mental Wellness, a Michigan-based community resource created to make mental wellness support more accessible, connected, and personal.

Through this work, I continue to advocate for a broader understanding of mental well-being and the importance of helping people find support that fits their individual needs.
